Fisherman bud vase

A really cute nautically themed bud vase which can also be used as a reed diffuser.

Each one is totally unique as they are carved/illustrated by hand.

How they are made

Each fisherman is slip cast in earthenware clay in a handmade mould from an original wheel thrown version, the hat is shaped when then clay is still wet. Once leather-hard the base layer of colours is applied.

The pots are then left to dry a bit more before I can begin the sgraffito decoration. This is where I scrape away the colour to illustrate the fishermen. Details are added used multiple techniques.

The pots are then bisque fired to 1100oC, then washed and dipped in glossy transparent gaze before having their final firing at 1000oC.

Additional information

They are 12.5cm tall and 9.5cm wide at the base.

Fully glazed inside and out.
